Bessie is our car.  Since we’ll be driving her over eight thousand miles this summer, we had to name her.

This is a job we left to the kids, and their brainstorming session was pretty hilarious. We suggested that they consider names from good books they’ve read, or that they had some other connection with, but they weren’t interested in our ideas. And honestly, crowning the old minivan with some highly-intentional name, especially considering what she’s about to endure, just wouldn’t have been right.

Candidates included: Flowers, Cutie Pie, Wanda, Stormy, Lucy, Charles, Chuck, Sofia, Maria, Laura, Dot, Cecelia, Fred,  Larry, Matilda, Jerry, Running Car and Camp.

In the end, they narrowed the options to three, and somehow Bessie – our 8 year old’s idea – won out.
